XPC UPS service in Toronto
Symetrix Canada is not the manufacturer of XPC equipment. For a unit under warranty, check the warranty terms with the manufacturer first.
We install, start up, maintain and repair Xtreme Power Conversion UPS systems in Toronto and the GTA: the current M90U modular platform, the earlier M90 and M90L frames still in wide use, and the Ai90 and R90 rack units. On a modular frame most of the work, from a failed power module to a battery shelf, is done with the load still protected.
Key facts
- Current modular platform: M90U, 15 to 140 kW at 208/120 V[1]
- Modules: hot-swappable power and battery modules (M90U)[2]
- Installed M90 units: service, parts and batteries still available from XPC[3]
- M90 warranty: two years on the UPS and on internal batteries[4]
- M90 room temperature: output derated above 30 °C, to 80% at 40 °C[5]
Ranges we service
| Range | Sales status | Usual work |
|---|---|---|
| M90U modular | Sold [1] | Start-up, power and battery modules, expansion |
| M90 and M90L | Replaced by the M90U; service, parts and batteries still available [3] | Battery strings, power modules, fans |
| R90 | Replaced by the Ai90 [6] | Batteries, replacement sizing |
From the M90 manual
The M90 and M90L user and installation manual sets limits worth checking on every visit:
- Heat: output capacity is derated above 30 °C, to 90% at 35 °C and 80% at 40 °C [5]. A frame loaded near its rating in a warm room can trip to bypass on a hot afternoon.
- Clearance: 40 in above and behind the UPS, 60 in in front of the UPS and its battery cabinets [7]. Storage boxes in that space block both airflow and service access.
- Battery test: the interval runs from 7 to 99 days, 30 days by default, with a 10-second test by default [8].
- Battery Age Alert: settable from 12 to 60 months, and disabled by default [9]. We enable it at start-up, set to the battery’s expected life, so the frame warns before the string is due.
- Power module swap: at least one module stays in the cabinet while another is removed; removing them all needs maintenance bypass [10].
Start-up and expansion
A new XPC frame is placed, connected by a licensed electrical contractor, started, and its settings recorded. Expansion on a modular frame starts from the measured load: power modules are added for capacity or for N+1, battery modules for runtime, and the breaker sizes are checked against the new rating.
What we check on an XPC unit
- The event log and module status, from the display or the network card
- Each battery module or string against its last reading [11]
- Power module fans and the temperature at the frame, against the derating limits
- The redundancy setting against the actual load, so an N+1 frame is still N+1
- The transfer to maintenance bypass and back, to a method agreed for the live load

Common questions
Who services XPC UPS systems in Toronto?
We install, maintain and repair Xtreme Power Conversion UPS systems across Toronto and the GTA, from M90U and M90 modular frames to Ai90 and R90 rack units.
Is the XPC M90 still supported?
Yes. XPC has replaced the M90 with the M90U, but service, parts and battery replacements for installed M90 units are still available [3].
Can an M90 power module be replaced without shutting down?
Yes, as long as at least one power module stays in the cabinet. Removing all of them requires maintenance bypass [10].
Can you add modules to an XPC M90U?
Yes. The M90U scales from 15 to 140 kW at 208/120 V [1]. The load, the breaker sizes and the battery runtime are checked before modules are added.
