APC UPS service in Toronto

Symetrix Canada is not the manufacturer of APC by Schneider Electric equipment. For a unit under warranty, check the warranty terms with the manufacturer first.

We maintain and repair APC by Schneider Electric UPS systems in Toronto and the GTA: Symmetra PX frames, the Galaxy VS, VX and VL, older MGE Galaxy units and Smart-UPS rack systems. Schneider prints two dates on each discontinued model: the day it stopped selling it and the day it stops servicing it. Several large APC frames are now past the second date.

On a Smart-UPS in bypass mode, the load gets mains power only while input voltage and frequency stay within limits.

A Symmetra PX past its end-of-service date

The larger Symmetra PX frame, the SY150K250D, passed Schneider’s end-of-service date on Apr 27, 2026 [8]. The UPS keeps running. Each visit from here should record the power modules, the battery modules and the fans, flag any part that has become hard to source, and keep a replacement budget current. The Galaxy VX is Schneider’s named successor for this frame [7].

Smart-UPS batteries

On Smart-UPS On-Line units, Schneider’s manual says to replace the battery at least every 5 years, and immediately when the UPS asks for it [1]. The Near End of Life alarm sounds 180 days before the estimated end of life by default [2]. Near the end of service life, the manual also advises replacing the battery even if the Replace Battery message has not appeared [16]. Heat, poor utility power and frequent short discharges shorten battery life [17]. Before ordering, take the model number from the label on the unit and check it against APC UPS batteries listed by series, so the replacement set matches the UPS you have.

  • Battery modules or strings: voltage, internal resistance and temperature against the last visit [18]
  • Power and intelligence modules: fan noise, airflow, alarm history and firmware version
  • The static bypass: a transfer and return, in your change window
  • The network management card, and whether its alerts reach your monitoring
  • The temperature at the battery cabinet

Common questions

Who repairs APC UPS systems in Toronto?

We repair and maintain APC Symmetra, Galaxy and Smart-UPS systems across Toronto and the GTA, including frames past Schneider's end-of-service date.

Is the APC Symmetra PX still supported?

It depends on the frame. Schneider Canada still lists the 40 kW SY40K40F without a discontinued notice [5]. The larger SY150K250D was discontinued on Dec 31, 2025, with the Galaxy VX as its replacement [7].

What replaces an MGE Galaxy 5000?

The Galaxy VS: Schneider's G5TUPS80 page names a Galaxy VS 80 kW unit as its replacement [13].

How long do APC UPS batteries last?

Most APC VRLA batteries last three to five years [4]. On Smart-UPS On-Line units, Schneider says to replace them at least every 5 years [1].

What does the APC Near End of Life alarm mean?

The battery is approaching its estimated end of life. By default the alarm sounds 180 days before that date [2], which leaves time to plan the replacement.
