UPS replacement and modernization planning in Toronto
Every UPS reaches the year its manufacturer stops guaranteeing parts. A replacement plan puts that year on the calendar for each unit, next to its condition from the last visit, and turns the list into a budget by year. The output is an asset list, a recommendation per unit and a sequence that never leaves a load unprotected.

Sales status is not service status
A discontinued model can keep full support for years, and a model still on sale can already have its best-efforts year set. Eaton’s catalogue lists the 9390 as discontinued, with the 93PM named as comparable [4]. Its service table keeps the 9390 in full support until best efforts begin in 2027 at 208 V and 2028 at 480 V [5]. A plan built on sales status alone replaces equipment too early or too late.

How a plan is built
- Asset list: make, model, serial, install date, battery date and measured load for every UPS.
- Manufacturer status: sales status and service phase, with dates, from the manufacturer’s documents.
- Condition: battery resistance trend, wear parts due, alarm history, from the last maintenance visit.
- Options per unit: keep and maintain; a life-extension programme where the manufacturer offers one; like-for-like replacement; or a modern frame.
- Budget by year, with the changeovers sequenced so each load moves to bypass or a temporary UPS once.

Common questions
How long does a UPS last?
The frame lasts until its manufacturer moves it to best-efforts support, which for the Eaton 9155 begins in 2034 [16]. Inside that life, lead-acid batteries are replaced every 3 to 5 years [2] and Eaton schedules capacitors around 7 years [3].
When should a UPS be replaced?
Before its best-efforts or end-of-service year, when the load has outgrown it, or when a repair costs a large share of a new unit. A plan sets that year in advance instead of after a failure.
Is my UPS discontinued?
Check two things: the manufacturer's product page (sales status) and its end-of-service-life table (service phase). Send the model and serial through the request form and we read both.
Can an old UPS be upgraded instead of replaced?
Sometimes: a battery type the manufacturer approves for the frame, a life-extension programme, or added modules on modular systems. Where none of those exist, replacement before the end-of-service year is the safer plan.
